IMAGE 1.2A BBS running under WinVICE 1.19 using tcpser-1.0rc11
From a caller's perspective, IMAGE 1.2A BBS can be a little overwhelming at first.
Also, it can be a little slow if you are not using a fast hard drive system, such
as the Xetec Lt. Kernal HD or the CMD HD with RAMLink parallel interface, since it
utilizes program overlays for each sub-system.
NOTE: It is
not yet known whether or not the IDE64 HDD will work with IMAGE 1.2A BBS.
However, from a SysOp's perspective, IMAGE 1.2A BBS is remarkable. Users with SysOp
access may enter a command to toggle Local Mode while online, which enables them
to perform various types if remote maintenence. Editing user accounts, reconfiguring
the sub-boards, or U/D libraries, or U/X full disk exchanges, and even reconfiguring
the system information and access levels can be accomplished remotely!
I personally love the way that the message bases are organized using sub-boards,
posts, and replies. IMAGE and C-NET were the BBS programs to use the post/reply
model without threading all of the messages together in a message area. You can
also SCAN for or READ any new messages in ANY or ALL sub-boards.
